Living Beyond Compromise (Part 2)

  • Pastor Alex Adegboye
Date preached 17th September 2017

The three Hebrew boys in Daniel Chapter three had a testimony amongst the Babylonians. Their lives speak about the fact that they served the living God. They were unwilling to compromise their faith even in the face of death.

We are called to live a life that is beyond compromise. In the secret when nobody is looking, who are you? We have few years to live here on the earth, but eternity is longer. We should always live with eternity in mind. What would death find in your hand when it comes?
Three points to note about these Hebrew boys:

They had an opportunity to choose again
They had implicit faith in God
They were convinced beyond compromise

The voice of the enemy said to them, if you do not bow, you would burn. If they had compromised, there would be no miracle of a great deliverance for them. Their choice made them who they were and that is why we are reading about them today.

When you compromise, God is not obligated to defend you. You must be a person of character. The Word of God is your foundation and you must be grounded in the Word of God. Psalm 11:3, “If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?”

What is esteemed before men is an abomination to God. Choose to live a life that does not compromise on sin. Sin will kill anyday. You may call it weakness, or addiction, or popular culture, but if it is sin it is going to bring destruction in the end.

Proverbs 14:12, There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
Why people compromise?

Lack of conviction. Gen 49:4
Lack of understanding. Prov 4:7; 24:3
Lust of the flesh. James 1:13-15
Lack of vision. Prov 29:18
Deception of Satan. 1 Tim 6:11
Lack of proper foundation. Ps 11:3
It’s an easier option. Prov 14:14

Vision is a revelation of divine responsibility. When people lack it, they run amok. When people lack vision, they lose control and make wrong choices. However, if you have vision, you would understand that all that you are and all that you have ought to bring honour to God.

Conclusion:
Compromise is easy on the flesh but conviction is hard on the flesh. The Hebrew boys did not bow, and they did not burn. People who bow eventually burn. The goal of the devil is to get many people to hell through sin. The Bible says the wages of sin is death… (Rom 6:23). We need the faith that does not smile at sin. A life of compromise would damn your soul. We need an ‘even if’ faith in the world we live now.

Job 13:15-16, “Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him: but I will maintain mine own ways before Him. He also shall be my salvation: for an hypocrite shall not come before him.”

Quote:
Compromise is easy on the flesh but conviction is hard on the flesh
When you compromise, God is not obligated to defend you
God would use what you do in the secret to judge you
