Living Beyond Compromise (Part 3)

  • Pastor Alex Adegboye
Date preached 24th September 2017

Compromise is the spirit of this age. It is the spirit of this world. All across the globe there are some big men in big places who live a highly compromised life. Compromise is the result of the absence of Christ in the lives of these people.

People who choose not to submit to God inadvertently submit to the devil and they lead lives of compromise. These people lack values and they have no legacies that can be handed down to their children. Satan is the god of this world and he controls their lives.

Self-preservation is a very powerful instinct and it is what drives most people. People would do anything to survive. Job 2:4, “And Satan answered the LORD, and said, Skin for skin, yea, all that a man hath will he give for his life.”

This spirit of compromise is the spirit of unbelief, doubt and fear. This spirit is a principality that we wrestle against (Ephe 6:12). The spirit of compromise is the spirit that is ruling this world and it makes leaders, and followers alike, to make wrong decrees and decisions.

In Daniel 3:10-11, Nebuchadnezzar decreed an unrighteous decree; he wanted everyone to worship his golden image. He said to the Hebrew boys, who shall deliver you in my hands? That is the way the spirit of this age speaks. It is wrong for leaders to pass unrighteous decrees.

These boys responded in Daniel 3:18, “…be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.” It is not everyone that can speak against the decree of the king the way these boys did. They refused to compromise.

Actions to take against compromise:

Choose to be a person of conviction. Isaiah 50:7
Make no provision for the flesh. Gal 6:8; Rom 13:12-14
Make friends with people of conviction who hold you accountable to high ideals. Prov 22:24; 29:3; 1 Cor 5:11
Do not seek popularity or acceptability with people because you have been accepted in the beloved. Ephe 1:6; Luke 16:15-17
Question your choice with the reality that the Bible preaches. John 8:32

Conclusion:
To live beyond compromise, you must come to a place where you fear God more than man. Let the word of God take over your inner consciousness. You must refuse to nurture the deeds of the flesh. The flesh would always gravitate towards the things that gratify it. However, if you make provision for the flesh, you would lack the stamina against compromise.

The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfill the lusts thereof (Romans 13:12-14).

Quote:
There is no sin that is too small that cannot send a person to hell
