The Book of Romans (11)

Pastor Alex Adegboye

Romans 8:15-16

“For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. [16] The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God”.

As long as you walk in the spirit you cannot be condemned. We are not supposed to live like the unbelievers. The law of sin and death is what the devil uses to operate on humanity. The demands of sin have been paid for by Christ. Jesus has paid for our sins so we are free. We were once sinners but now are saints because the price has been paid by Christ. This knowledge will make you live above sin. The power to live above sin comes by this revelation.

When we gave our life to Christ, we received the Spirit of the House – this is the Spirit of the house of God. Without this Spirit of the House you can’t live in the House. The Spirit of the House is called the Holy Spirit. This spirit guarantees co-ownership. This means you and Christ are both joined together.

Romans 8:17

“And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together”.

Abba father is a fond way of referring to one’s father. Abba father also means Daddy and only those who are very close and precious to the father call Him Daddy. It is that Spirit, the Holy Ghost that gives us this closeness and fondness to call God Daddy. A sinner cannot call God – Abba Father or Daddy.

I John 3:1-3

“Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.

Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure”.

I John 4:16-17

“And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.

Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world”.

When you have a revelation of how God has made you then you will grasp deeply how God loves you. The Spirit of God gives us this revelation that makes us know how God loves us. Everything that heaven has is available for you and me. Everything we will ever need in life has been invested in the scriptures.

Romans 8:18, 23, 25, 26.

“For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.

But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.

Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered”.

Christians should not be bothered by anything confronting them knowing the packages the father has ahead for them. The sufferings of Christians are like the groaning of a woman in labour which further leads to the birth of a new baby. This day and hour in which we find ourselves is the era of suffering. This era of suffering is the time we groan and pray in the spirit. You cannot be spiritual if you if you don’t pray. To continue to walk with God, you need prayers. It is important you yield to the spirit of prayers.

We Christians don’t believe in luck; we believe in God who orchestrate things out. Roman 8:28 “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose”. God works things out! The bible says there is a God who works all things out. God does not do evil. There might be no good in what you are going through, but believe this God will work it out. The love that made God give us Jesus is more than our suffering. Rom 8:32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?

Rom 8:29-30 “For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified”.

There are five stages here:

1.      Fore know

2.      Predestination

3.      Called

4.      Justification

5.      Glorification

The first two stages happened before time, before we were born. God’s ultimate purpose is to glorify us. The first thing God did is to fore know, that is to know before time. Before we came into existence God knew us. Jeremiah 1:5 “Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations”.

The scriptures should humble you that you don’t know much. It is important for you to know that before the world was created, you and God had a relationship.

The second stage is predestination. Predestination means before your destiny. Before you were conceived He predestinated you; fore knew you.

The next stage is called. Everyone born into this world is called but not everyone called responds to the call. After hearing the call, respond to it and stay. Judas Iscariot heard the call, responded but did not stay.

Because you respond to the call you are justified. Because we respond and continue in this call we are justified.

Finally, we are glorified. This is the unbreakable chain of God’s purpose for our lives. Whatever you go through in it God will glorify you. This unbreakable chain is Fore Know – Predestination – Call – Justification – Glorification. In between this chain we go through hard times but the end of all these times is glorification. Whatever you go through in this world if you are in Christ is working out for your good to glorify you.

God bless you.

A sickness free life

There is a revelation in Romans 8:11 that God used to liberate me from the grip of sickness. The drug that was given to me during the time of my sickness has the tendency to go to the wrong places, leaving the places with problems, and it will go on to the places without problems.

There is always the tendency for us to get distracted in life. Our eyes will go off course when we are distracted and we lose focus. The Christian life is a walk with Jesus as our focus but the cares of this life and deceitfulness of riches makes us take our eyes off Jesus. We
