The Flesh Pot of Egypt

Exo 16:3 And the sons of Israel said to them, O that we had died by the hand of Jehovah in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh-pots, when we ate bread to the full! For you have brought us forth into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger.

Gen 3:6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasing to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make wise, she took of its fruit, and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.

There is a common saying that the quickest way to a man’s heart is through food. The children of Israel preferred death over freedom because of food. For what their mouth will eat, they cried all night and perished. They did not appreciate the liberty God wrought for them by delivering them out of the hands of their task masters rather they murmured and groaned for food. An uncontrolled desire for food can kill; not only the death of the body but also the death of one’s precious soul. Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden sold out the human destiny and God’s precious glory on it to sin through their appetite for the fruit God forbade them from eating. The uncontrolled appetite for food has ruined many lives and will keep on ruining if not curtailed. Man was shut out of paradise because of food. The cry of man’s stomach helped to drown the voice of God in the Garden of Eden.

In Genesis 9:20-25, the bible gave us the account of Noah, a man who built the ark in 40 years and escaped the flood placed a curse on his younger son (who was the supposed progenitor of the black race) because he could not control his appetite for wine. He drank to stupor, so much that he became naked. Because of the uncontrolled appetite of one man, a race was placed under a curse.

The reason Isaac loved Esau was because of the food he regularly gave him. Esau was a blessed man but the day the blessing was to come on him he sold it out for a morsel of food. The birth right he sold out to Jacob carried twenty four blessings. He despised his birth right for food. He preferred the food of the now over a blessing of generations. He despised spiritual things because he was profane.

While in the wilderness, the Israelites condemned the manna God gave them, they asked for meat instead, Num 11:4-6, Num 21:5 “And the people spoke against God and against Moses, Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no bread, neither is there any water. And our soul hates this light bread”. A number of people have been initiated into the spirit world through food. When you refuse what God says you will have to do the things of the devil. Hophni and Phinehas, sons of Prophet Eli sinned against God and were punished as a result of the desire of their stomach, 1 Sam 2:12-17.

1Co 6:12-13 “All things are lawful to me, but not all things profit. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.

Meats for the belly and the belly for meats, but God shall destroy both it and them. But the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord is for the body”.

It is not a sin if you eat but does it promote spiritual life to eat all the time even if you have to. Once a while, sacrifice food to God. Food cannot determine when to eat it rather you determine when to eat food. To be spiritual is to have control over the flesh. One way to do this is to have control over your appetite; to gain control over food. Any man who does not have control over the flesh and his appetite is like a city without wall; a life open to satanic attack. It is a sobering thought that all sorrows and pains that befell man came as a result of food. If your stomach is more than God you are an idolater. An idolater is someone who has something bigger than God, 1 Cor 10:1-7.

When you fast dedicate it to God. During fasting and prayer your spiritual man gets imparted by God and you have spiritual things added to you. You cannot die for not eating when fasting. Say to yourself regularly man shall not live by bread alone. When you fast three things happen:

  1. You will catch the attention of God.
  2. You will catch the attention of satan.
  3. You will catch your own attention.

The bible says the days in which we live there will be so much eating and drinking that men will not even know when Jesus comes.

Matt 24:37-39 “But as the days of Noah were, so shall be the coming of the Son of Man.

For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day Noah entered into the ark.

And they did not know until the flood came and took them all away. So also will be the coming of the Son of Man”.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

God made food for man not man for food. Once a while sacrifice your food to God. Fast, it is healthy and beneficial to your spirit.

God bless you.

A sickness free life

There is a revelation in Romans 8:11 that God used to liberate me from the grip of sickness. The drug that was given to me during the time of my sickness has the tendency to go to the wrong places, leaving the places with problems, and it will go on to the places without problems.
