Worry takes away joy and peace. No matter how legitimate the problem is, worry will take away your joy and peace. The Bible states in Romans 14:17, “For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.”
When you come to Jesus, one of the benefits of knowing Him is joy. Worry is not a Christian lifestyle as far as God is concerned. The Christian lifestyle is a life of joy. Whatever the issue, Jesus said take no thought about it. Worry will open the door to sicknesses of varying descriptions. Many of the diseases that are called psycho-somatic diseases do not have a source.
Psycho-somatic diseases cannot be traced to anything in particular, but it is in the mind. Worry opens the door to diseases and problems. This was what happened to Job as he said in Job 3:25, “For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, and that which I was afraid of is come unto me.” When you are afraid and anxious about something, it will come to you.
Worry is the expectation of evil. Job 3:26, “I was not in safety, neither had I rest, neither was I quiet; yet trouble came.” Most people spend most of their time thinking about evil things and that is why they would come. There are too many people who are sick because they are afraid. Worry destroys the forces of faith and patience. When a person worries, he cannot operate his faith.
Anybody that is full of worry will also not have patience because worry closes the door of faith. James 1:6, “Anyone that will come to God must come in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.” When somebody worries, his faith is tossed to and fro and such person cannot receive anything from God.
Every stage of life has its own peculiar worry and to be able to do well in these stages of life, you must develop resistance to worry. Endeavour to spend your time in fellowship with God. The people who have confidence in their God shall be like Mount Zion that shall not be moved. Your confidence is in the Lord and your expectation is in the LORD and when you know this, you would be able to put your trust in Him and rest in Him.
