Matthew 6:22 (GW), “The eye is the lamp of the body. So if your eye is unclouded, your whole body will be full of light.”
From the Creation account in Genesis 1, we understand that it was the Word of God that ushered in light. God said let there be light and there was light. Psalm 33:6,9 reveals that, “By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth. For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast.”
Wherever the name of Jesus is mentioned, darkness has to flee. Those who have received Jesus Christ do not walk in darkness anymore, but walk in the light of life. In Him was life and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
From our elementary biology, the source of light to the earth is the sun. It is sunlight that gives energy to the plants, and animals feed on plants while humans feed on plants and animals. Without the sun, it will be impossible for plants and animals and humans to survive on earth.
Life cannot be said to be self-sustaining without the sun. According to John 8:12, Jesus Christ is the Light of the world, and without Jesus Christ, life cannot be said to be self-sustaining. All things exist by Him and through Him, and He holds the world together by His word.
IMPORTANCE OF LIGHT
To come to light is to come to the knowledge of the salvation of God. Those who sit in darkness are those who are without the knowledge of the true God. Faith reveals the way but knowledge is the goal. Faith is the substance of things hoped for, but knowledge is the substance of things possessed. Without faith there would be no knowledge, but when knowledge is acquired, the work of faith is perfected.
You will never develop in life without coming up against hard and difficult oppositions. The apostles we read about in the book of Acts were not sidetracked by these trials, they focused on Jesus. Hebrews 12:2, “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
Life is a battle ground and our eyes are the greatest weapon on the battlefield. As soldiers of Christ, we must constantly carry the armour of light so that we can dispel the darkness that is around us. If our eyes are full of light, that light would override any form of darkness we may encounter either in our marriage, ministry, business, academics and other areas of life.
God’s people perish because they are biblically illiterate.
Darkness is an opportunity for light to shine.
